My depictions of Hajime Saitou do not imply any support, condonement, or tolerance of Nobuhiro Watsuki's actions. I will not interact with individuals who support him or the controversial ideas he perpetuates in his manga, Rurouni Kenshin.I refer of course, to the ships of Kaoru (17) x Kenshin (28) & Misao (16) x Aoshi (26). Supporters or shippers of these duos will not be excused for their problematic endorsement nor will I accept them with open arms.Simply put, I enjoy Hajime Saitou as a character, but I do not enjoy the circumstances of the author nor the romantics of the story he has made, for very obvious reasons.I will not entertain debate on this.

An eccentric and sadistic police officer slash government spy. It's said that he was once a devout member of the Shinsengumi, or Shogun's police during the Bakumatsu. After many years of battle and several identities traded away, Saitou emerged in the new world as "Goro Fujita," a kind-smiled neighborhood officer recruited by the Meiji Government to gather intel on Tokyo's political scene. At his heart, Saito is a rather cruel and selfish man, often doing things out of personal interest and abandoning his team for greener grass. He shows little to no remorse for his actions, and treats the world as rudely as it did to him; brushing off his sins and burdens with a scoff and a light of his cigarette. Much of his ideology and rhetoric consists of the idea that "no one else will do the dirty work; the world needs someone to blame, so be it."FEARS

  • Saitou is bicurious.

  • His relationship with Tokio is for purpose of status and carrying of his bloodline; as disturbing as the notion is, it seems heavily implied by the mere timeline of their historical associations.

  • He has trifled with courtesans before during his Shinsengumi days, and was somewhat of a playboy. Later on as Goro Fujita, he actually became more repulsed of women except for his (now late) wife.

  • Saitou is a sadist in every sense of the word.

  • He disapproves of wakashu culture, mainly because he turns a spiteful eye at younger people as a whole.

  • He’s a bit of an ageist.

  • An all-around asshole.

  • Avoids alcohol like the plague, because once he starts he can’t stop, and as per the canon, he tends to get homicidal when drunk.

  • A surprisingly decent cook.

  • The kind of person to take immensely good care of his hygiene—his gloves aren’t purely for uniform, he’s overall very hesitant to physically make contact with strangers whom he tends to view as inferior.

  • The “filth” in his mind is not physical, but rather ideological filth. He would spit at the idea of associating with someone who doesn’t relate to his ideology of living > survival, much less touch them.

違 Divergences

  • This Saitou’s story takes place in an altered timeline with slower pacing than canon. Kyoto arc took place in 1878 like in the original, but Jinchu arc occurred 5 years later in 1883. The present is 1 year after that, putting us in 1884.

  • Tokio was assassinated one year into Shishio’s campaign due to Saitou’s meddling in his terrorism incidents. Shishio had Tokio killed so as to psychologically weaken Saitou and frighten him off of his trail.

  • Saito spent several years in mourning, around 6 years total. As of his “present” age in this RP depiction, he would be 42. However, his age can vary depending on whether or not this Saitou is used in the semi-canonical context or the full divergence context.

  • All depictions of Saitou from this admin will be solo, meaning Tokio has passed away due to political circumstance or he never met her at all. This is mainly because Tokio has little to no actual contributions to his story and isn’t even shown once in the series. The admin would prefer to keep Saito’s romantic avenues open for RP, but only ethically.
